Bakery On Main Gluten Free Granola came from a simple philosophy: food that’s good for you should taste good too. It all started in the small bakery of our natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Founder Michael Smulders listened to his Celiac customers complain about the taste of many of the gluten free options available to them. He thought that no one should have to suffer because of a food allergy or intolerance, and made it his mission to create products that were good for them but taste like they aren’t.

Late in 2003, after tasting a granola recipe one of the bakers was working on, Smulders said, “these gluten free people need granola!” He walked through the store and gathered ingredients and baked the first batch that day. It took almost 2 years to find gluten free sources of all the ingredients and find a place where we could make the product without risk of cross-contamination.

What you should know about Bakery On Main.

Located just a few miles down the road from the original bakery, our plant maintains the small bakery quality by continuing to bake in small batches.

The Bakery On Main plant is certified Kosher by the orthodox union and is certified for organic production.

Bakery On Main maintains exceptional quality standards by employing Good Manufacturing Practices including ingredient quality controls, full product traceability, in-house gluten testing, standardized allergen and sanitation cleaning procedures, and a HACCP program to insure food safety. State of the art metal detection is employed.

 Our products are created for you in our 26,000 square foot production facility with state of the art processing equipment and room to grow so that we can fulfill the future needs our loyal customers.

 

 

Michael Smulders

Michael started in the natural foods industry in 1991, opening his first natural food store Garden of Light Natural Foods in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Michael is a natural food and medicine enthusiast who believes that natural, organic food as well as herbal medicine can make a difference in one's quality of life. Those are the beliefs that drive Bakery On Main to make some of the best tasting gluten free products on the market today.

Melissa Carducci

Melissa Carducci is operations manager for Bakery On Main. She has held positions in the retail and wholesale bakery business and manages production at the Bakery On Main plant. She is certified in Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety and HAACP by the American Institute of Baking.
